The Quail Hunting Tradition

Quail hunting has been a South Carolina tradition that dates back centuries. Woodside Plantation covers 1,000 acres with designated courses that mimic the conditions of old-fashioned quail hunts. Ride mule-drawn carriages, trust the instincts of well-trained bird dogs, hunt supplemented and explosive early release quail, and take as much time as you need to get the perfect shot.

While the quarters are beautiful, well-furnished, and comfortable, the aim of your trip is a guided wild quail hunting excursion. You can choose from mornings, afternoons, or all-day trips, which will be arranged to accommodate the number of people in your hunting party. Guides are there for your safety and navigation, but you take the lead in hunting for the birds that make the Woodside forests their home. Your hunt is customized to your specifications. All hunts are done off an old-fashioned mule-drawn wagon. Or, hop on an ATV.

What You Need to Know About the Quail Hunting Experience

Quail hunting is a fun and adventuresome sport, but you should keep your wits about you. This means adhering to the safety guidelines of your hunting guide, handling your gun with care, and respecting the vegetation and other animals in the area. There, of course, will be dogs accompanying your hunting party—all well-trained. The English Cocker hunts, flushes, and retrieves game, while the Pointers and Setters hunt close, run fast, and help you achieve a higher count for your quail hunting excursion.

Additionally, all of your on-site activities at Woodside Plantation are covered. From meals, travel, and hospitality services, you have the best of everything both indoors and outdoors.
